Title: Windows Doom
Filename: graphics/windoom.zip
Size: 191.66 KB
Date: 12/27/00
Author: Sparky of KISS Software
Description: Give Doom the look and sound of Windows 95. Includes that inane Canyon midi, startup and shutdown screens and sounds, and several parody images - press F1 for Help, and Pause for a special error message ;)

This wad is for Doom, Ultimate Doom, and Doom II but contains no levels - checkout the blue rivets everywhere on E1M1 or MAP01.

Note to Wad Authors out there: WinDoom was originally going to be a Partial Conversion with surreal levels inside your computer, but it's gathered enough dust now for me to realize that it's not going to happen. So I stripped out the textures and incomplete map and released it in the form you now see it. Feel free to use WinDoom.wad as a base to finish this dream :)
Credits: Microsoft Corporation for driving me insane to the point where I'm too scared to update my operating system ..."better the devil you know" ;)
Base: Most of the graphics, sounds and music are from the Windows95 operating system by Microsoft Corporation. Several Windows95 parody images by unknown authors, obtained from the Internet over a period of years.
Build time: about 4 hours (?)
Editor(s) used: WinTex, DeuTex, PaintShop Pro, MicroAngelo, CoolEdit, Midi2Mus
Bugs: I never got around to fixing the Win95 clouds.bmp so that it tiles properly as a sky texture :(

It was sort of a good idea, but did you Really have to use the same midi over and over again? =x

A disappointment. Replaces the title screens and some sound effects, plus the sky and the floor textures. It's underwhelming. It reminded me of "Lego Doom", which is much better.x
