What are some WADs that deserve a new MIDI Pack?

Scythe and Perdition's Gate.

Ah heck no. Perdition’s Gate soundtrack is killer and should not be touched.

Yeah, it is killer. I just wish "Javelin Juice" wasn't only 52 seconds long.

Perdition's Gate and Hell to Pay have largely the same soundtracks so why not a Hell to Pay MIDI Pack then?

Really even one that just replaces the duplicate tracks within either one would be cool with me too. I just wouldn’t like a project like a lot of the ones we saw over the last few years that replaces every single track.

I haven't told anyone about this, but for a while I considered leading a joint double MIDI pack for both Hell to Pay and Perdition's Gate. Akin to the TNT MIDI Pack, it would have entailed expanded covers of the original songs in their debut slots, backed up by original MIDIs in slots that were previously occupied by duplicates.

Funnily enough, when those rules are spread out across both wads (which is to say that, for instance, a track debuting in one megawad's map01 and the other megawad's map20 would be considered a duplicate in the latter case and replaced with an original song), there would be exactly 12 covers per megawad. Nice and balanced. That just made me more inclined to do it, but I never ended up pulling the trigger.

Obviously, a double MIDI pack would be an absolutely enormous undertaking. I've got other things I'm working on right now (one of which is another MIDI pack), but would this be something people would be interested in seeing down the line?

Scythe 1 is a clear choice

Don't touch Map30 though, it's too iconic.

Agreed on Hell Revealed. Much of HR's appeal is its jank, and having mostly ROTT soundtrack is a big part of that.

The thing is, to make an Aliens TC MIDI pack work, you're asking composers here to imitate James Horner. Really tough!

Maybe they can go for his 'Commando' style. I am 90% sure he's using a Sound Canvas for several patches in here.

Speak of the devil! Have you tried to find and contact Jan Sinkmajer yet about the 3 other tracks?

Honestly I think the truest answer is people are interested in seeing just about any midi pack project, it’s just that there’s a limited number of midi musicians in the community and so the project has to draw enough of them to make it doable. Perdition’s Gate and Hell to Pay have some of the necessary name recognition to do that, but that’s also a lot of tracks, especially when there’s a lot of people (well, at least two people?) who aren’t a huge fan of replacing every track in for wads like these. The TNT midi pack is fantastic, for example, but I don’t like to use the remixed versions of tracks as I love the originals, so I made my own that only replaced the duplicates.

On the flip side, there is of course a case to be made for consistency and for lengthening tracks that are too short or haven’t aged very well.

This was my really long way of saying yes, I would love that.

I contacted the company that I think he works at but haven't gotten a response. That was at least a year ago, though. I really should try again...

Thank you - I guess I'll need to put it on my to-do list, then. :)

Although I've seen it said that the Doom community doesn't have many composers to pick from, it's something I disagree with myself. If anything, I think the proportional number of skilled musicians here is shockingly high - the population of mappers is definitely a lot higher, but there's more than just a fistful of song-slinging stragglers on the sides. There are dozens of talented, friendly, and hard-working musicians who are as passionate about Doom music as mappers are about mapping. (And that's to say nothing of the multi-talented beasts out there who can do both.)

I'll take any opportunity I can to give my fellow musicians a platform and a new credit on their resume! Now if I could just clear out my current workload...

If Hell Revealed does get a MIDI pack, Lee Jackson should compose the music for at least the first 20 maps so that the songs still fit perfectly

I modified HR back when I played it a second time (still wasn't a fun time) and I decided to add other ROTT music to the maps that didn't have music already in it. Not gonna lie, "You Suck!" is a lot more fitting in MAP24 than "In the Dark".

Anyways, I think Community Chest 2 and Memento Mori should get MIDI packs. All times classics. CC2, but with all maps with different music besides MAP24, of course. Memento Mori has a banger soundtrack, but of course the tracks repeat after MAP15.

I was just replaying 10 Sectors, which I think is a good candidate. It's got no music, so it just plays the standard Doom 2 tracks. The maps are different enough that there can be a lot of variety in the midi pack!

I think I also suggested a supplement for Master Levels MIDI packs for the rejected/tie-in maps.

Now that its an official add-on, I think 'The Trooper's Playground' should get a midi pack. Its gotta have tracks for the bonus level and the two deathmatch levels though!

Maybe some office style jazz music with drawbar organ solos. Music that makes you think.
