[RC5] EVITERNITY II - RC5 Released!
Lord Belial replied to Dragonfly's topic in WAD Releases & Development
You seem to ask this about quite a few WADs ;) I'm far from a Doom expert, but for a WAD like Eviternity 2 there would be a huge amount of both technical and design work required to make it compatible with Brutal DOOM. The quality of E2 speaks to the high standards of the dev team, which means they wouldn't be happy with a "it doesn't crash all the time" level of compatibility. And balancing the WAD for Brutal DOOM would severely compromise the vanilla experience, so there would really need to be a separate Brutal DOOM version. Given how many hours were needed to "just" make E2 for vanilla Doom, you can understand why the team wouldn't be interested in entertaining such requests. Have started a pistol-start RC5 playthrough. Loving it even more! Particularly: -

[RC5] EVITERNITY II - RC5 Released!

I look forward to this! I have my own theories about the themes and meaning of the map and would love to hear from the author. At first I was disappointed that Kenosis isn't a slaughterfest, which I'd assumed it would be from the monster count. But I think the sparseness of the encounters adds to a tremendous feeling of building dread, desolation and lonlieness. Constantly blasting imps while going between the large structures would make it feel considerably less horrifying. The argument could be made that if maps 26 and 29 were swapped in the order it would help with pacing. 26 was such a crescendo, it makes sense as a penultimate map. And this swap would bring Kenosis earlier in the progression. Of course it's far easier to criticise than create and there are, no doubt, good reasons behind the WAD's level order which I'm not aware of. 26 is a strong statement of intent for the last chapter. -

hahaha I totally missed that and thought (for some reason) I had to get the cyber killed by infighting. Which I managed with some difficulty, then another one spawned! So I said F THIS and just ran through -

I absolutely love that this was released out of nowhere! Eviternity is my favourite ever set of Doom levels so to say this was a pleasant surprise is a supreme understatement. Just finished my first continuous UV playthrough. The team really knocked it out of the park! So much variety in terms of encounters, new monsters and visual styles. For me it felt a little more uneven than E1 but not in terms of quality, more because it seems like more risks were taken. For example Map33 is technically so damn cool but....I don't want to play it. To each their own, and I'm happy it was included even if it wasn't for me. I think the "secret level attached to each episode" structure makes a lot more sense and I liked that finding the secret exits wasn't toooo hard. Becuase I'm not great at finding secrets but I hate missing out on secret levels. And, just like E1, the way many levels included the beginning of the next is an inspired touch. My only technical issue is it seems very dark at times? I'm using GZdoom, mostly default settings, and I'm not sure how to fix this other than fiddle with gamma (yuck!) or play at night (yeah!). Some random spoilery thoughts: I'm very much looking forward to a pistol start playthrough, though it will no doubt kick my arse.
