Who else is building a PC for Doom 3?

Well, you should only use Report to Mod in severe cases, like for warez or pornography links, or for extremely bad behavior (I'm talking geno_breaker, AdAmIzEr, and DoomZero bad behavior). It would not be a good idea to report every rude comment to the mods.

Look at JoeTodd's posts for an example on how not to use Report to Mod (assuming they haven't been edited out of existence).

Kat does have a tendency to be "a bit" roughmouthed and I know that not everyone knows how to deal with that. Maybe The_Aeromaster did take her insults too near, but I still think he's perfectly right in defending himself - at least to give Kat a clue that he doesn't like her way of responding.
But I don't think your actions were justified - Kat can speak for herself and it's not very wise to start something like this when you've only just signed in. I dunno if you've been a long-time lurker (like I was before I signed in for the first time), but I think you should still try and pipe down a bit and act a bit more like a newcomer so that you don't get into trouble as easily.

Anyway, on to the matter at hand...

My plans for upgrading the rig include the purchase of a AMD Athlon XP 3000+, along with a motherboard that's running a Nforce 2 chipset. (Still shopping/researching that one...) I'm keeping the two DDR400 256MB DIMMs I'm currently using. (System bottleneck, I know. But I got them for free.) Already running a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and considering the cost to performance equation of the 9800 Pro, I'll stick with that as well. Also, the Audigy gamer coupled to my 4.1 setup will do just fine for now.

All in all, it might cost me an arm, but I can keep my leg.

Nailgunner I'd use the Asus A7N8X deluxe. AWESOME board and has dcddr.

I was looking at that one on newegg earlier. That is a sweet mobo...

I just bought an asus p4pe for 150 and had the highest benchmark score "ever" at pcpitstop. Good stuff from asus these days. What are you running right now?

Me? A Gigabyte GA-7VRXP with the VIA KT333 chipset. Stable, and dual BIOS has saved my ass more than once.

Nice. Mine has the crash free easy flash stuff. When I overclock if its too much, the bios automatically flashes itself. Interesting stuff.

I figure my Athlon XP 2100 1.73 GHz/512 MB RAM/Radeon 8500 64 MB machine will be able to run the game just fine once it's optimized and released... it runs the alpha at a satisfactory speed and detail.

I don't know weather I should buy one now or wait till Doom 3 goes gold.
If I buy it know I can play some games right know that I'm not too crazy about playing, but if I hold off until Doom 3 I can get a better system.

So you guys know, the 2100+ T-bred B is an EXCELLENT overclocker, you can hit 2.4-2.5 ghz from the stock 1.73, with good air cooling, which is par to the 3.06 p4 ht for gaming. That's the route I am going instead of my original 3.06 plans. I've saved myself an extra $1000 dollars, it should cost me about $4050 TOTAL (including taxes) for my system. Here it is, the things that say Canada, Vibe, and Bigfoot are the websites I'm buying them off of. canadacomputers.com vibecomputers.com and bigfootcomputers.com they are the best places in Canada for stuff, some don't have names beside them, because they haven't been released yet. Here's my specs, all prices are with taxes already included.

This is all top end shit, and will run Doom 3 flawlessly. Especially the video card which is the first 256 mb card ATI has and the first ATI ddr-2 memory and f-buffer card. If your wondering, a 2.5 ghz 2100+ T-Bred B is a bit faster then a Barton 3000+ is (bout 20%), which is nearly equal to a 3.06 p4, so essentially, I'm on par or better then a stock 3.06. If your doing multitasking (which I'm not) and most don't do with their personal PC, then go p4 HT, if your not, and want wicked gaming go AMD 2100+ T-Bred B. I chose the Epox 8rda+ because it is an EXTREMELY good board for overclocking. No doubt the best board for AMD overclocking. If you get the board, make sure you get one with the A1 northbridge stepping. If you order from newegg.com (which I recommend) you will get an A1 stepping. The boards have VERY good overclocking abilities with this stepping.

What the heck, I can get a computer as good as that for less than half of that price.

That's Canadian dollars remember. Not American. Tell me where you can get all this from because these are the best prices you can get in canada or the US. Remember those prices are AFTER tax, each item has had the tax added.

You're right, I was thinking in US dollars, my mistake. Still sounds a bit expensive though (I can never understand why people go for the newest stuff when the second newest stuff's always 30% cheaper), but hey, if you've got the money, then it's your choice :)

I'm not buying "the newest" stuff necessarily. I'm getting a gig of 3500 RAM though which I need since I'm overclocking about 700 mhz and need the timings and mhz levels, and the video and sound are what are gonna be expensive. I'm thinking that I'm going to go with the 9800 pro 128 MB now, since I don't think I need the 256 meg to run Doom 3 full detail 1280x1024 over 40 fps all times. You think it's enough to do that? The sound system is a 6.1 which is why it's so much, it's about 400 dollars US plus tax for the speakers. I listen to music though and want good quality and bass as well as for gaming as well.

Yet doom 3 like quake 3, supports hyperthreading. Im getting sixty solid frames right now, with a 9800 pro 128 MB and a 2.8, with no tweaking at all. 512 megs of pc2700 ddr 333, is sufficient, at least as far as doom3 is concerned. So maybe your going a bit overkill with some things. Sound is my big push, but I dont think you need to spend that much on speakers. Hell for 200 american, i can get some nice logitech thx speakers. I think as far as my rig goes, ive found a nice leway, between price and quality, and Im definitely getting more performance than I need for any ap Im going to be running
