In my opinion NeoDooom was one of the most enjoyable wads this year, despite some shitty aspects like ripped textures. Of course the author is a bit of a dick. I'm sure there are other people who share these opinions with me.

I can't even play NeoDoom since it won't work with the newest version of ZDoom. Is there some way I could play the levels without the annoying new weapon replacements or new enemies?

I just got a copy of NeoDoom and played it.

The level design is sub-par and the weapons look like the same ones Daniel steals for every wad. Shadow Warrior grenade launcher firing upward-aimed Strife grenades FTW.

I thought NeoDoom was above average compared to other levels this year (3.5/5).

Yeah, it has rips, but at least it is playable, and feasible. I actually sort of enjoyed the city-themed wads, as they sctually looked like a city.

I hate the Mega-Vixen boss on level 27, by the way. Liked the music on levels 28 and 29 (they matched the hell theme).

Heh, I had seen that and grimaced, but couldn't bother reuploading, even though I'm a spelling Nazi. Maybe because the tendency to type of instead of or is more obnoxious, currently, than the occasional misplaced apostrophe. I wonder what causes those glitches; the Warsteiner?

The only problem i have with Demon eclipse is that i cant seem to find any ammo? Only the former humans drop anything and it's only a 5bullet clip. Any help please?

Demon Eclipse does suck. I mean its innovative how the guy was going for the hellish artifacts and stuff but only looked good because he overused custom textures. Other than that it wasnt so good. And the new weapons weren't really necessary.

"something" rip is a thing I really don't care at all while playing a map...

Or am I realizing DoomWorld is full of nostalgic guys that dislike anything that don't look like good old Doom ?

Perhaps I'm going to understand why Eternal Doom is not among the all-time legendary wads like the MM's and HR...

I've considered making my own little Jokewad based on the community. You would play as Deathz0r, a moderator on the edge with a colorful record painted with the blood of Newdoom. After gunning down a bunch of people during a major flame war, he has one chance at saving himself from being losered. He must recover the fabled Risen 3D source code from the ruins that were it's creators computer, so that it may be shared by all forum goers.

The complaints about ripping are because it disrespects copyright and tends to produce half-assed art style clashes with DOOM's stuff or other mixed ripware itself. A TC or modification changing a lot of things or practically everything might be cool or decent, if it's consistent and respectful (like The Darkening 2, Batman Doom, Hacx, etc.)

Eternal Doom is decent, but has some clunky stuff (including some annoying sound replacements and some cheap graphics), but it has some great stuff as well. Also some people have disliked it a bit because the maps are vast, and thus sometimes confusing.

And let's not forget that the second and third episode are highly inconsistent both in style and quality. When I was first playing it I was amazed by the quality of the first one (Maps 1-12) but what comes after that qualified as a massive disappointment to me. It mostly seemed like 20 maps made with the available resources with no regard to style or continuity.

But on the other hand, I had similar problems with other megawads as well. Both Memento Moris contained several maps I strongly disliked and speaking of consistent style regarding these WADs is a joke at best. In the end they are mostly a random collection of maps.

Inconsistency in a megawad is (as I'm sure you already know) generally a product of individual authors imprinting their own style on their maps, often in a manner that clashes with that of other authors on the team. Heck, take a look at DooM2, which has such a diversity of map styles.

While this tends to detract from the experience for some players, I don't really mind, especially if there is no attempt at an underlying storyline or theme. It would be great for every megawad to be story- or theme-driven, but like Christmas, that does not happen often enough for most of us.

Just tried out Neo-Doom, for the time it was releasedm it's pretty decent. Interesting Dehacked weapons, though that 'Nuke'-BFG is really buggy. It drops a bunch of fire-actors that themselfs can be hit. Which basically results in some giant firestorm when you shoot another nuke-shot. The splash radius for the fire is WAY too huge, but i guess taht's unchangable due to dehacked's limit.s Over all, pretty interesting wad, though I cant say it's the best.
