Krezy you will want to upgrade to a Radeon 9700 or something I'd think.

And just why is that? He already HAS a gf4 ti4600, what's wrong with that?! You don't need to spend 2165123511251 dollars to make a decent machine capable of running doom.

And from what I've heard LCDs aren't good for gaming at all, do to slower refresh.

If he wants to keep high framerates EVERYWHERE in the game he'll want the newer cards.

The game isn't out yet, so how could you possibly know?

And please, don't pretend that the alpha is any indicator of the final game's performance.

Check out the ATI testimonials vid, carmack says that the Radeon 9700 is the ideal target for the game since it can do all the work and maintain higher framerates.

I'm CURRENTLY upgrading my video card (because they just don't want to send it by time) from i810e (chipset) to 9700 PRO.. =)
Well.. I hope I'll get it ASAP.. They gave me ATI Rage 128 PRO for so long :D

What do you think he would have said if it was a geforce testimonial?

He's talked about the Geforce 4 cards before and said they were awesome cards, didn't say they were the ideal target. I'm not gonna argue with you about this anymore. I'm just saying if you want the best performance, go with a 9700 pro, by the time the game is out it will be cheap.

uh no. When doom3 is released, the 9700 pro will be 'slow' compared to the newer cards. There is absolutely no reason to upgrade from a Geforce 4 Ti4600 to a Radeon 9700.

And, IIRC, Carmack said the final release will be optomized enough that a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 will get a steady 30 fps with minimal to no drops, but my memory has failed me in the past...I think...

Im currently using this system :

PIV 2,53ghz
Asus P4PE
Infinion DDR333 512mb (i will upgrade this later this year)
Asus Geforce 4200 Deluxe Geforce3 (upgrade to a GF-FX later this year)

@Alientank
My suggestion is to buy Infinion or Kingston RAM Moduls. Its much cheaper than Corsair and not realy less good. Normaly i buy quality, the price doesnt matter, but i wont pay much more for only 1-2% more power.

What you told Krezy was that his $400 card wasn't good enough, and he should go out and buy another $400 card... But the fact is, the gf4 ti4600 is the seccond best card out there and there is really no need to upgrade yet. That's all.

Why buy a 2400+? The 2100+ has the same stepping and can OC higher, also seems to pull up better FSB speeds then the 2400+ and is MUCH cheaper.

I don't own a 2100+, infact I own a crappy P3 500, for the meantime, in May I'll have if not the best, then one of the best machines on DW.

The_Aeromaster, could you be any dumber? Really. Things are just getting ridiculous around here.

First of all, they're not going to put anything in the game "that you need cutting edge hardware" to run. They never have, they never will, and pretty much, in the gaming industry, that just doesn't happen.
It limits the developers' target audience too much, because even though people with lesser systems can certainly run the game, the people who don't understand how to modify even relatively simple detail settings (the largest portion of an a-list game's audience) will be unsatisfied with the game's performance at the default detail settings. Or, if the default detail settings are lowered from the maximum, then those people who've bought brand-new systems from an OEM for a ridiculous sum (which are never truly "cutting-edge") will be upset that the game really doesn't look as good as they've heard.

Second of all, upgrading your current system for Doom 3 is both ridiculous and brain-dead. That system as it stands will run even the unoptimized alpha fine, and it should slay the final game. Unless you've got more money than you know what to do with or you're completely retarded, wasting money on another system "for" Doom 3 is moronic.

Thirdly, you "bought" the game? Really? Where? What does the box look like? What comes with the game? Do you get a paper manual? How many discs is it? Get a clue. You might've pre-ordered the game, but even that's dubious. I, for one, got my money back on my reservation. I'm just going to go buy a retail copy of the game when it comes out.

I haven't read the rest of this thread, but after simply reading that post, I can't be bothered

First of all i don't see what's so brain-dead about wanting this awesome game to run good, just because ur not as obsessed with it as i am.
Next, I don't see where you have to be a retard to upgrade your pc, because, if not to run the game, it'll last longer before i haveta upgrade again to run the next generation of games.
Third, yes, I bought the game, where the term "bought" means that you exchange money for goods. When the goods arrive, I will go to the store and pick it up THE DAY IT ARRIVES, i just won't haveta go up there and put myself on a list. I'm not going to get screwed, I've worked with this store on several occasions on game releases and was always pleased.
Fourth, yeah I've got the $$$ to build a brand new pc if that was my intention, which you misinterpreted. I was referring to getting the newest Radeon card when the game is released.
Fifth, I don't think they implemented this thread to allow you to blow off steam from a bad day at work or whatever's up your ass that would cause u to feel "bothered" by a simple post about how I'm gonna put a new gpu in my computer when the game comes out. If that's all you have to worry about in your life is whether or not I'm making a poor decision, I want your life.
Thanks, and have a good time thinking up a real crushing reply.

Now you better think up of an apology for Kat sooner or later, or this might wind up in Post Hell, just like jack and shit... simple as that.

Um, yeah... Who are you again, and why are you demanding apologies from anyone?
