    thoughts on The Doom Awards™

I've been watching the whole ordeal on Twitter and it's been a laughing stock from the DA team. Like personally I'd be very insulted if I got a weird AI-generated medal during an award ceremony. Also can't help but find it quite ironic that their relying on AI during what is meant to be a celebration of creative works, hmm. Worst part is is that their doubling down on their behaviour too (tweet in spoiler)

Is using SAVES in Doom bad?

Yes. It is commonly known that each time you save, one year gets taken off your life span. Count your days save scummers! On a more serious note though, saving is a feature. No reason to feel bad for using a feature provided by the developers, even if you use it excessively (this goes for all games).

  6. I'm gonna work on my map now, but I want to be clear if this room here is mine? It's the 50th room in the OP screenshot when going left to right, top to bottom

Mapping - how much of it is talent?

@Ravendesk I think I was a bit arrogant when I said "Talent doesn't exist" so I apologise for my vague wording, but I don't think I'm entirely incorrect. I was going to type something wordy but the way baja put it is way better than I could tbh. I think what I really meant to say is that while talent does exist, it doesn't really define innate skill set I guess?
  10. Happy 3 years and 1 day of me existing on this site :)

Mapping - how much of it is talent?

Talent doesn't exist. Skill does however, and skills are obtained through putting time and effort into whatever you are trying to build. Simple as that. This applies to everything. Mapping, art, music, even programming, it's all skill. Some may have an easier time when starting out than others, but that's more related to how we all see, perceive, and interpret things differently. Like a good player can go out and make a good first map, because they know how the game works so they can build the map around their knowledge of the game. In Mouldy's case, art/animation really helps build that creative eye, and I can tell you as an artist myself despite not having made a map for a while (I should get back to that, now to think lol). In terms of general creativity, I personally don't believe creativity is an inherent talent to anyone. Math has always been my favourite subject at school and I've always done well at it, and math is seen as more "logical" than that of other subjects such as art, however within the last few years I've been getting into learning and creating art. And while I'm not a grand master by no means I still think I'm pretty fine at it, and it's because I took my time to learn it. Same goes with mapping and any other creative/artistic field. In summary, anyone can learn anything. Some may have it easier, but it's always due to how others have different backgrounds and ways of seeing things, if that makes sense.

Metroid Prime without a doubt, with Portal 2 in a really close second
