    These songs sound amazing.

    GTA VI Trailer

I wish Rockstar could've made a Miami Vice based game years ago as a subverted version of GTA playing as the law. There are references to very specific episodes in the show all the way up to GTA V. I think they could've done something special in that universe. Character switching between Crockett and Tubbs, then having them together for several missions. MV and Bladerunner are the two IPs I think they could've made an awesome game with.

Pull a Donkey Kong 64 and make it part of 100% completion lol.

    Quake II Remastered

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate an option to invert the gun to left handed. Being a lefty, there's so few FPS games that have this option. Unreal was the only one I remember from back in the day that let you set the gun for a southpaw.

    GTA VI Trailer

The sandbox genre has evolved greatly since at least GTA IV. The Batman Arkham games I think was a clear evolution of sandbox city games. Arkham City and Knight in particular are almost GTA, but with playing as Batman. The Spider-Man games have carried the Batman Arkham torch, right down to using the same rhythm based combat system and evolving it. I wish Rocksteady could've made the Superman game they wanted to do. They had some great ideas I am sure would've made a fun sandbox game. GTA was the main thing in the 2000s with all the clones it had. Saints Row gets mentioned often, but there were a bunch of the others. Licensed Godfather and Scarface games were GTA Clones. That Scarface game was pretty interesting that it ran on a modified version of the Vice City engine, and had a better combat system than all the GTAs (it fell short in other aspects of the game design, but the shooting was fun). Check out Sleeping Dogs and Mafia III if you want a more modern take on the GTA game style.

    GTA VI Trailer

This sums up the problems with GTA for me! I could've wrote this exact same post!! I first started playing the games back with GTA 3. I too had a lot of fun with San Andreas, as there was just so much to spend time doing. San Andreas the peak of this series and it's been downhill ever since. I still liked GTA 3 for it's weird creepy atmosphere with the fog and ambience. Vice City improved on 3, but SA is where it hit the strongest. GTA 4 is where they jumped the shark for me. Pretty graphics became the focus over fun stuff. When they began removing things for "realism", that was the beginning of the end. By the end of GTA 4, you had limitless cash and nothing to spend it on except clothes and weapons. All those fancy graphics and animations, yet there was nothing to do in the game except follow a mediocre story with unlikeable characters. You still have some of the side missions like the Vigilante one, but now it only gives the reward of money and nothing to spend it on. It's strange seeing how much praise that game for the story when it felt like it couldn't decide between being a parody and serious. Niko was just an unlikeable sociopath I couldn't connect with. Tommy V worked well in Vice City cause he was a caricature in a parody of crime movies in the 80s. I had the same reaction to GTA V on launch. I finished the single player in a week and felt like the overworld was so barren. It had more to do than GTA IV, but it was clear that they saved all the goodies for the online mode, which I had no interest in playing. The story sucked mainly cause the protagonists were so unlikeable. They hyped up all the bank robberies, then in the campaign you only get paid from 3 of them. These games were more fun when they didn't have much of a story to them. GTA 3 dropped you in an open world sandbox and the story was more or less in the background, as it was about exploring the map and creating chaos. I remember only doing the missions to unlock the islands. The fun memorable stuff of the old games was how much mayhem and destruction you caused and funny stuff (making the tank fly in GTA 3). Vice City had something going with the businesses, and it worked as a parody of Scarface and other crime genre films. When they moved away from this and started trying to write serious crime drama, they lost that charm for me.

    What do you call Doomguy?

I don't see Doomguy as a character. The text screens say 'you' as in the player. Doomguy is you. He don't need a backstory, since it's easier to immerse yourself in the game without that. This was something Doom 3 clearly understood, and something I strongly dislike in the new games that went the character route with the cringey edgelord "Rip and tear" crap.

DOOM Archaeology: The First 25 WADs

Amazing stuff. Thank you for sharing.
  9. Sorry! hearing it over and over in a long map like Mt. Pain kills me. The track along with other TNT MIDIs is also noticeably louder than the original game MIDIs for some reason.

What does Tyrese have to do with Doom?

The very first one that was made for whatever probably made sense. But applying to everything just makes them ridiculous and overdone. I feel old seeing Doom 64. One of the first mods I remember finding years ago was the D64 Absolution.
  11. Thank you. I have not played Doom in a long time since an injury to my hand that led to a diagnosis with tendonitis. When I came back to playing, I cranked up the mouse horizontal movement to compensate for this, so I assumed it had to do with my mouse. Glad to know that wasn't the case.
  12. Hi all. I'm just getting back into playing Doom after a long break. I usually use DSDA Doom, and recently downloaded the new version, as well as new PRBoom+ after updates. I am having a weird glitch it seems with movement, where I am bouncing backwards after running into corners and objects. I am currently playing through Alien Vendetta and on Map 9, going up the first circular staircase, I hot the wall and bounced backwards. Another section of the map, I berserk-rushed through some zombie men, and as I hit them, I bounced backwards. I tested some other games, including the IWADs and had this same thing happening. I tried this again in PRBoom+ and the same problem. I don't know what is causing it. I don't remember these sourceports behaving this way before and have spent the past 2 days searching everywhere for a fix. I have mouse movement enabled, and horizontal movement set to 40 due to tendonitis in my hand. It seems to do it regardless of what I set this too though. Vertical movement is off entirely, and I have disabled the mouse movement to only use it for turning.
