    Doom Year Zero

The final map of Quake 1s 20 years anniversary DLC "Dimension of the Past" is also named "The Year Zero". Coincidence?

Do people actually hate the DLCs?

For me the Prowler (TAG2) and Spirits (TAG1 + 2) broke the combat dance. Both force specific actions, the Spirit can only be killed by the Ghostbusters gun mode of the plasma riffle. I hate to say this, but the TAG2 finale made Doom Eternal much less interesting to me: It's basically a Gladiator 2.0 fight and the plot twist makes the Doom universe look like an ancient Viking/Greek mythology tale. I'm looking forward to play Doom 2016 again and I'm really excited about id Softwares next project - but I have very mixed feelings towards Doom Eternal after TAG 1 and 2. But it looks like you actually enjoyed both expansions and I'm glad to hear that, because id put a lot of effort in these two expansions.

    The 7:17 theory….

I don't think id already knew which game they are going to work on when the codex entry was written. I don't think id Software is working on a new Doom game: Quake 1-3 was their longest continuous IP game series and each of them was something very different. Quake was more a gameplay promise, Doom is very specific in story and setting. Doom 2024 would limit their creativity since it's obviously a successor of 2016 and Eternal. Doom Eternal, especially TAG 1 and 2, had some story flaws which id Software would have to deal with if they develop Doom 2024. Shifting from an abstract "man vs. evil" to an almost Greek like pantheon somehow scaled Doom from an epic clash to local politics.

Which have already been setup in Doom. If you compare Classic Doom with other FPS of that period you get two major differences: Vertical combat (open elevators, different height levels within each level, fighting monsters below/above you) and lighting.

I think the majority here (including me) loves Doom Eternal and like the DLCs (except me).

This was obvious because he still talked to you. Nevertheless it was a major disappointment - you were forced to make him disabled.
  7. Has it ever been revealed who is the dark lord of the 4th age? Is it Davos? If yes, the whole Father/Davos/Urdak/Argent D'Nur story line would happen within the 4th age. This would also be a hint for even more powerful beings/primevals. This might also open the possibility Classic Doom happened in the 1st/2nd/3rd age. If no, the identity of the dark lords 2, 3 and 4 have never been revealed.

Although I dislike the story direction id Software took in TAG 1+2, I wonder how they could have done better? After the end of Doom 2016 everybody wanted to know Olivia's boss. After the end of Eternal another mysterious protagonist was known - the father. But the dark lord has not been revealed. By revealing them (in TAG 1+2) as persons the story almost looked like Greek mythology, combined heavy metal, mixed with biblical names. Maybe TAG 1+2 should not have solved the mystery between the original dark lord, the father and so on? Maybe it should have focused on the "dark lord of the 4th age" vs. Vega? What do you think?

    How will DOOM 6 work?

Which is strange - without Doom 1 + 2 the cutscenes on Sentinel Prime don't make much sense. So it is required to fully understand the story.

    How will DOOM 6 work?

Considering Doom 2016s beginning was added very late during development I always considered it as a reboot. But after the release of Doom Eternal and the new Doom 64 episode New Doom is obviously a sequel to the Doom 1 + 2 + 64 storyline.

What do you want id to do next after Eternal?

The New Colossus was great except for the annoying laser dog. I enjoyed it more than The New Order and Old Blood.

Do people actually hate the DLCs?

I don't hate the DLCs and enjoyed both of them, but the broke the main game for me :-( My main complaint is the story: Doom 1, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 2016, Doom Eternal are all about an epic fight of a space marine against the root of all evil. TAG 1 & 2 downsized the story to a family conflict of some ancient beings. In some interview Hugo Martin said something like the Dark Lord is a primeval but there are other primeval who made him. Overall the story reminds me of Greek religion. TAG 1 forced you to kill Vega. This was a major disappointment.

What do you want id to do next after Eternal?

I'd like to see a true Doom 2016 successor. No hell vs heaven drama which even got downsized in TAG 1 + 2 to a minor political conflict instead of a epic "the source of all evil vs. mankind". I even think Doom Eternals story, especially TAG 1 + 2s, somehow damaged classic Doom 1 + 2 because now it's just part of a minor plot.

To be honest, Doom Eternal had a strong Quake vibe, it felt like Doom 2 Arena. And this might be the reason some people think the difference between Doom and Quake 1 is too small. There's nothing wrong with that because id Softwares games always focused on fast and intense gameplay, combined with impressive visuals. Of course there are exceptions like Doom 3. But the art direction of Quake was very different. It felt more solid and steelish. The weapons had a stronger impact on the player and the enemies. Doom had a plasma gun, Quake a nailgun. The movement was (in mph) slower than Doom, but it felt more free. I'm excited how a new Quake 1 game would feel.

Doom Eternal was released ~ 2 years ago. Do you think id Software will announce their new project at this year's QuakeCon?
